Welcome to our Sunday service online. Please click on the items below to follow the service at your own pace.
You may like to have a candle ready to light with John.  There is audio or video accompaniment to readings and prayers. At the end of our service, you may wish to watch
Wider Society - Bishop Martyn speaks with Lusa Nsenga-Ngoy, BAME Mission and Ministry Enabler.
Our opening hymn is 'Be still for the presence of the Lord'  .
Reflect on the day and on your relationships.
  • -  What good things have come from God today?
  • -  Where have I fallen short?
  • -  What might I do tomorrow?
You may wish to say or pray:
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

The collect for today;

Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help
we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

Our next hymn is Lord, thy Word abideth.
Lord, thy Word abideth,
and our footsteps guideth;
who its truth believeth
light and joy receiveth.

When our foes are near us,
then thy Word doth cheer us,
Word of consolation,
message of salvation.

When the storms are o'er us,
and dark clouds before us,
then its light directeth,
and our way protecteth.

Who can tell the pleasure,
who recount the treasure,
by thy Word imparted
to the simple-hearted?

Word of mercy, giving
succor to the living;
word of life, supplying
comfort to the dying!

O that we, discerning,
its most holy learning,
Lord, may love and fear thee,
evermore be near thee!
The Gospel for today is from John 14.1-14
1  “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Paul will now share some thoughts on the Gospel.
 We now have our next hymn, 'Great is Thy faithfulness'  after which Paul will lead us in our intercessions.
Great is thy faithfulness
1       Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
          there is no shadow of turning with thee;
          thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not,
          as thou hast been thou for ever wilt be.

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
          Morning by morning new mercies I see;
          all I have needed thy hand hath provided,
          great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

2       Summer and winter, and spring-time and harvest,
          sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
          join with all nature in manifold witness
          to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
          Chorus

3       Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
          thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
          strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
          blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
          Chorus

We say together the prayer of General Thanksgiving

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you most humble and hearty thanks
for all your goodness and loving kindness.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And give us, we pray, such a sense of all your mercies
that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful,
and that we show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up ourselves to your service,
and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be all honour and glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Before John closes our service, we sing 'The King of love my shepherd is'
