Welcome to our Rogation Sunday service online. Please click on the items below to follow the service at your own pace.
You may like to have a candle ready to light with John.  There is audio or video accompaniment to hymns, readings and prayers. At the end of our service, you may wish to watch the video '
Additional Support' - Bishop Martyn speaks with Emily Williams our diocesan Disability Awareness Advisor

Our opening hymn is 'Praise, my soul, the King of heaven!' .
Reflect on the last week and on your relationships.
  • -  What good things have come from God last week?
  • -  Where have I fallen short?
  • -  What might I do next week?
You may wish to say or pray:
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
The special prayer for Rogation Sunday.
Almighty God,
whose will it is that the earth and the sea
should bear fruit in due season:
bless the labours of those who work on land and sea,
grant us a good harvest
and the grace always to rejoice in your fatherly care;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Our next hymn is 'Think of a world without any flowers'.
The Gospel for today is from John 16. 23b-33.
John ch 16,
23b Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
25 ‘Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.
26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.’
29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, ‘Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech.
30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.’
31 ‘Do you now believe?’ Jesus replied.
32 ‘A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 ‘I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’
John will now share some thoughts on the Gospel.
 We now have our next hymn, 'What a friend we have in Jesus'  after which John will lead us in our intercessions.
We say together the prayer of General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you most humble and hearty thanks
for all your goodness and loving kindness.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And give us, we pray, such a sense of all your mercies
that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful,
and that we show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up ourselves to your service,
and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be all honour and glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Before John closes our service, we sing 'O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder'.
You may like to listen to an organ solo by Rob Charles, 'For the beauty of the earth'.
