St Deny’s Church Eaton
Church Wardens' Report 2019
During the past year much of the PCC’s focus has been on quinquennial report work and general building maintenance. The PCC has been frustrated with the lack of progress with the quinquennial work which in part is due to a lack of response from the Architect. However, the PCC was delighted to welcome back the Reverend Sue Bradley to the village and are grateful for her offer of support and guidance to help move the quinquennial work forward. Other work, such as lightening conductor replacement and upgrade has been completed. Work including boarding out the bell tower, bell maintenance and gutter clearing is ongoing.
The Friends of St Denys have certainly been living up to their name and have organised several gardening days in the church yard, which included clearing the French drains and planting bulbs. Further gardening days are planned for 2020. The friends continue to support to church by organising fund raising events. They are also keen to support the PCC with the quinquennial and maintenance works.
The Holy Communion pattern of services has remained unchanged as is attendance. The PCC decided to alter the Repose Service to a 30 minute morning praise service which takes place on the first Sunday of the month at 9 am. Unfortunately, attendance for this service remains low. The Remembrance and Christmas services were well attended as usual.
During the last year we have regularly opened the church for the local bell ringing group. St Denys has been used for several weddings, christenings and funerals during the last year and as ever the Church Wardens and PCC is committed to ensure St Denys is at the heart of the village for many years to come.
