Welcome to St. Egelwin's church. The church building is now open for private prayer on Thursdays and Sundays from 10.00 until 16.00.
We hope to be able to re-commence services on the first Sunday of each month starting in December and these will be in accordance with government and diocesan guidelines. We advise that you notify Penny Clemons (444687) or Paul Taylor (444092) if you intend to come as there will have to be a limit on numbers, social distancing being observed. Face masks will be necessary so please bring your own.

Help for Heritage as St. Egelwin’s Church, Scalford receives lifeline from Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
Historic sites including St Egelwin’s church has received a grant of £19 800 to meet the costs of restoring drainage around the church foundations. Built from soft ironstone, the church has been affected by climate change with gutters and drains unable to cope with recent heavier downpours of rain. The grant is to be used to create a drainage system fit for purpose with french drains and new soakaways.

Penny Clemons, the churchwarden, says “The church has suffered an increasing damp problem affecting outer stonework and inside plasterwork. This lifeline is a great help and work will commence just as soon as plans and contracts are finalised. The church has been a focal part of Scalford village for nearly 1000 years and we need to make sure it lasts.”

9The beautiful church of St Egelwin dates back to the Middle Ages and sits in the heart of the pretty village of Scalford.
The church holds several services each month, the Benefice Communion service on the first Sunday at 10.30am and
Praise on Sunday on the third Sunday at 4.30pm. This is an ecumenical service of prayer, praise, and a reflection on a reading from the Bible. Refreshments are served after both services.
The church has recently completed renovation and is looking lovely with new facilities, children's area with toys and meeting area.
We are in the process of further changes to the west end of the church in order to expand the office space and to incorporate a 'Community room'.
We have been fortunate to secure a grant in order to replace inadequate drains and pies with a new system of french drains and soakaways. Thes changes have now been completed.
